The Science of Acupuncture
CEU Hours: Category 1, 16 CEUs are Pending by the California Acupuncture Board
Instructor: Dr. John McDonald, PhD, L.Ac.

Didactic lectures (16 CEU's Pending): April 8th to 9th, 2018 (9:00am - 6:00pm)

This course will explore the nature of the acupuncture channels, from both the Classical (drawing from the Huang Di Nei Jing Ling Shu) and the modern scientific perspectives. Relevant quotes from the Ling Shu will frame the traditional Chinese medical understanding of the classics, and each of the current dominant anatomical substrate theories will be explained and then analyzed to demonstrate which facets of traditional channel theory they can account for, and which they fail to account for.

Dr. McDonald will also explore a strategy of "evidence-based point selection" - data-mining the historical literature to see what the most reliable record of usage for various points is - and contrast this with various theoretical approaches to point selection.

Lastly, Dr. McDonald will cover the current state of acupuncture research, challenges and future directions, and guide application of research in clinical practice, marketing and communication
