Clinical Application of Classical Formulas I

In this course, Dr. Huang Huang will introduce the constitutional, Formula-Family style of practice. He will focus on explaining the Disease-Formula-Person analysis, and on the key characteristics of the major formula families. Finally, he will present the formula presentations for clinically useful Classical formulas.

  • Historical introduction, framing the formula family style within the greater
    context of Shanghan Lun scholarship
  • Disease, Formula, Person model of analysis
  • Key characteristics of Guizhi, Banxia, Chaihu, Fuzi and Mahuang formula families
  • Formula presentations for a large number of clinically-useful formulas

Dr. Huang Huang is a professor at the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. A prolific writer and editor, he has studied and worked in Japan, lectured widely throughout China, and r in the United States, Europe and Australia as well. 

He has focused on investigating and summarizing the experiences of famous CM clinicians and examined the different schools of classical formulas with a particular emphasis on studying the herb and formula indications after the 1990's.

In this course, Dr. Huang Huang will continue teaching the constitutional, Formula-Family style of practice. He will focus on explaining the Disease-Formula-Person analysis, and on the key characteristics of the major formula families. Finally, he will present the formula presentations for clinically useful Classical formulas.

  • Key characteristics of Ganjiang, Huangqi, Huangqin, Huanglian, Dahuang formula families
  • Formula presentations for a large number of clinically-useful formulas

Shanghan Lun Clinical Theater

Teacher: Dr. Huang Huang
Date: 2/7/2017; 9am to 5pm
Location: ACCHS, 1600 Broadway Ave, Oakland, CA 94612

In this course, Dr. Huang Huang will treat patients using the principles using the principles he teaches: identifying the formula family and formula presentation based on readily observable signs and symptoms. He will explain his clinical reasoning and choice of medicinals, so students will get a practical sense of the clinical application of Classical Formulas.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • All cancellations must be received in writing by letter, fax, or email (abella@acchs.edu).
  • Cancellations made at least 7 calendar days prior to the first class day will receive a full refund less a $40.00 administration fee.
  • Cancellations made less than 7 calendar days prior to the first class day will receive a 50% refund.
  • ACCHS is unable to transfer course fees paid for one seminar or course to any other seminar or course.
  • In the unlikely event that ACCHS has to cancel a course due to insufficient enrollment, or for some other unforeseen reason, registrants will receive a full refund.
